WEAR AND TEAR

Breckon’s interest in crime scene investigations and forensic methods significantly impacted her creative practice. She learnt more about crime scene analysis and the meticulous mapping of minute details. Eventually, Breckon started using some of these techniques in her own storytelling and character development.

In Wear and Tear, she maps personal articles of clothing through a series of pencil drawings, detailing the wear and tear of these everyday objects. While garments provide DNA evidence in missing persons cases, they also become symbols of that person. Our clothes nod to our experiences and identities – rips, stains and worn fabric mark our idiosyncrasies or the less remarkable moments of our lives.

Each artwork consists of multiple sheets of drawing paper, which can be seen by the spontaneous lines running through some images. This multi-layered effect imitates the process of piecing information together to find missing parts.
